Our eyes tend to get tired and begin to experience dryness, redness, burning sensation, and even pain from intense use. These symptoms are the body’s warning signs telling us that “it's time to rest”.

If the eye discomfort is not properly addressed, it may affect our eyesight and eventually cause visual impairment. When the eyes feel tired, we should take actions to reduce the discomfort.

Factors that cause eye fatigue

Lifestyle

When you stay up late scrolling your phone, or watching the computer screen or TV for a long time, too little of blinking can reduce the moisture and lead to dry eyes which may cause eye fatigue.

Environment

Reading for extended periods of time in low light, or looking directly into brightly lit areas can tire your eyes from overuse.

Individual Condition

If you have shortsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and other vision problems that are not corrected in time, the eyes may laboriously adjust to the focus point and it may lead to eye fatigue.

In addition, people who have just completed eye surgery need to rest their eyes more to avoid eye strain.

How to relieve eye fatigue?

Wear Sunglasses

It is recommended to wear sunglasses with UV protection when you are under the sun to prevent the damage of the eyesight caused by sunlight.

Periodic Inspection

Go to the ophthalmology department for regular eye examinations. If there is nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or presbyopia, it is recommended to correct it in time and wear glasses that suit you.

Eye Exercises

When staring at the computer or mobile phone for a long time, take 30 seconds to do eye exercises to relax your eyes.

With your head still, let the eyeballs turn clockwise to the left, up, right, and down, repeat 3 times, and then repeat 3 times in the counterclockwise direction.

Warm Compress

When your eyes are tired, rub your hands together and place them on your eyes for 10-20 seconds to relax your eye muscles.

Repeat several times, or use a warm towel instead. If the eye is inflamed, warm compress is not recommended.

Lifestyle and Diet

Adequate sleep, a balanced diet, and proper hydration can improve our eye health.
